Security Guard ‘Chokes’ Shop Thief To Death

Security Guard ‘Chokes’ Shop Thief To Death

Death Due to Restraint

Aaron Bishop (pictured) was restrained by the use of a “choke hold” which sadly ended his life by a security guard who also works as a door supervisor.

Samantha Gregory, a witness to the event, said: “His head was purple. He was being restrained by the neck and that was what was blocking his airways and changing his colour.” She said two men were holding his legs, a third was holding his arms and Mr Bawden had him around the neck. “The man being restrained was not doing much physically,” she added. “His face was down on the floor facing the concrete. He was just trying to breathe.”

Patrick Harrington QC, prosecuting, asked the witness: “From what you saw, was the way he was being held around the throat appropriate?”

She replied: “It was definitely not the way. It was 100% not the way to restrain somebody around the neck. He was obviously pinned down by other men, he did not need to be held around the neck.”

She said Mr Bishop was saying: “‘Let me breathe. I cannot breathe’.”

Patrick Harrington QC told the court Mr Bishop had shoplifted a £35 bottle of Joop perfume from the centre’s Debenhams store. “The cost proved very high indeed,” said the barrister. Five security guards restrained him on a gantry leading to the shopping centre’s car park, including Mr Bawden. Mr Harrington said he “used wholly inappropriate and we submit excessive means to restrain Mr Bishop.”

Can You Spot The Failings?

Once again the risk factors to those of us who are professionally trained are clear: too many staff, the use of the prone restraint and neck/choke holds being used.

Unemployment will peak at 2.8 Million by the end of 2010

September 11, 2010 Leave a comment

Unemployment will peak at 2.8 Million by the end of 2010

According to the latest forecast from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development unemployment will peak at 2.8 million in 2010. The group said that unemployment would continue to rise for the first six months of the year, despite the recovery in the UK economy. The total number unemployed in the UK is currently approximately 2.5 million, the equivalent of approximately 8% of the UK population.

Just recently Hampshire Police announced that it was going to axe 1,400 jobs which equates to about a fifth of its workforce  which will include hundreds of police officers.

Pay squeezes for those left in work

But what for those lucky enough to still have a job. Well they are likely to see below average pay increases below the rate of inflation giving them less for each pound they earn. In addition, with employers looking to cut labour costs they will be expecting more from the staff remaining. In short those left in work will probably be expected to accept increasing workloads – for the same or less  money.

That is another reason why everyone should have their own business! – But there are many more!

Having you own business is a real asset that everyone should have and the reasons are as follows:

1. It can bring in additional income to help pay the bills, pay off debts, allow you and your family to have a holiday, and much more.

2. It is very tax efficient – even if you make a loss! If you make a loss in your first year of having your business then you can claim that back in taxes you have paid from your employed salary! In short you get a tax rebate! Even better news – you can carry that tax loss back a few years and also forward lowering your tax liability.

3. If you run a small part time business from home a percentage of your household bills become ‘business expenses’ allowing you to offset them against you tax liability! Computers, pens, paper, phone-lines, mobile-phones, clothes, cars, petrol expenses, and much more become tax-deductable. For example, I drive a Range Rover SPort – paid for by – yes savings in my tax!! I also have six properties and last year I got an £8000 tax rebate on them.

Everyone has a special skill that has market potential

For example, if you a teacher you could write reports on how to educate your child. If you are successfully living on a budget you could write a report or start a blog on how you do it and write ebooks or article that you could sell for profit. If you are a young person who is good at skateboarding or bmx-ing you could start a web-site or blog site and run training courses in your spare time.

You can also make money without having a product by using someone elses!!

I can show you how you can use ‘affiliate programmes’ to advertise someone elses product and earn money everytime someone who is referred from your web-site and / or blog site buys something from someone else. This is a great way to generate income without having to actually do anything  apart from a bit of advertising and marketing.

Do you have a large social or professional newtwork? If so you could earn ££££’s simply by organising a course for your colleagues and reccommeding they attend.
I know many trainers who will pay you a 50% commission on such deals (these are commonly known as ‘joint ventures’). Think about it. You find someone who runs a course and who charges £80 per person. You recommend the course to your colleagues and 20 of them attend. You get paid 20 x £40 = £800 – its a no-brainer.

However, what if the course or product was worth £500 and you got 50%? Lest say you sold 20 to your colleagues. On a 50% commission you would get paid 20 x £250 = £5,000.00! Could you use £5,000 for a few hours work? Again its a no-brainer. Imagine if you sold 100 products at 50% of £500. That would equate to a commission of £25,000.00!

If you are attending the seminar on the 19th October I will give you the opportunity to do just that!

Why Everyone Should Have Their Own Business!

You’ve probably heard the news recently about the possible redundancies that are likely to occur in the public sector and this will have worried a lot of people, I am sure. In addition, in recent months and years many private sector staff have been laid off due to the current economic situation.

Just recently a good friend of mine told me that she was told that there are likely to be one million public sector posts going.

The fact is that there is no such thing as a job for life and that is one reason why everyone should have their own business – even if you are employed and here’s 10 reasons why:

1. If your business is home based, a percentage of your household bills become tax-deductable;
2. Your car’s running costs become tax-deductable;
3. Any computers that you buy for the ‘business’ become tax-deductable;
4. Any ‘stationary’ you use becomes tax-deductable;
5. Your ‘business phones’ become tax-deductable;
6. Your travel expenses become tax-deductable;
7. Your e-mail provision becomes tax-deductable;
8. Any web-sites you set up become tax-deductable;
9. Any training kit you buy becomes tax-deductable;
